The course last year looked like this….
Throughout the duration of the course you will learn about the following:
Fundamentals of storytelling – Exploration of storytelling and the fundamental principles of drama. Students will learn about the need to create intention and obstacles linked to clear stakes.
Group pitching sessions – Teams present their ideas to the group and learn the mechanics of what makes a strong story pitch.
Producing a movie – Students will gain a broad overview of the feature film production process.
Careers in film – Students learn about the plethora of roles involved in the development, production, and distribution of film. The session will also focus on how to launch a career in the industry.
Scriptwriting – A session for the students to discuss the script development process with the tutor and guest speaker.
Practical training/studio operations – Gain and improve technical skills, critical faculties, collaboration and teamwork.
Script editing and tone of voice – Students learn about writing for different audiences and the nature of different formats.
Pre-production – Students learn about pre-production through practical group sessions working on the script.
Animation and VFX – Students learn about 2D and 3D animation and VFX.
Health and safety on a film set – Students gain an understanding of film health and safety and codes of conduct.
Filmmaking practical session – Students will produce their own film with the support of tutors and mentors, gaining and improving their technical skills, collaboration, and communication skills through teamwork.
Editing – In groups students will review and contribute towards the film edit.
Planning the premiere – In groups students will plan their premiere screening.
