The prestigious BFI Film Academy aims to help train and inspire the next generation of British filmmakers, supporting talented and committed young people aged 16-19 to develop the commercial and cultural knowledge and skills to help make a career in film a reality. The BFI Film Academy offers training for every film industry role, from writing and directing through to production, sound design, editing and camera, and provides learning around film history and cinematic storytelling to inspire an appreciation of film culture in the round.

We are looking for committed, talented young people between the ages of 16 and 19 to be part of the BFI Film Academy 2014/15. As a BFI Film Academy participant you will get a real experience of film production through a course which is centred around an actual feature film production. The course will use the pre-production and production as a background to learning, enabling you to gain valuable knowledge and experience both in theoretical and practical terms. Participants will also get opportunities to speak to and interact with film industry professionals learning from a range of guest speakers active in the film and wider media industry.
The aim of the programme is to provide a balanced approach to learning from industry professionals whilst giving participants an opportunity to produce their own mini-movie.
The course runs from 2nd November until 18th January 2015. Please make sure you can attend all the course dates before applying. The course will be held on these dates at the White Lantern Film Bournemouth town centre offices:
2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th November 2014
6th, 7th, 13th, 14th December 2014
10th, 18th January 2015
Successful applications will also be working towards gaining a Silver Arts Award. Through the Arts Award participants will gain an accredited qualifications on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) enabling them to progress into further education and employment.
The cost to participate in the BFI Film Academy is £25 but if you will struggle to pay the course fees, don’t be discouraged from applying, come talk to us as the fee may be waived. Bursaries will also be made available for participants if you require assistance with travel, child care or other costs. You need to be between the ages of 16 and 19 on the first day of the Academy programme and a UK resident able to commit to the programme for its duration.
